About Welwyn Hatfield Liberal Democrats

This website is where you will find up to date news and information about the local party for Liberal Democrats who live and work in the boundaries of Welwyn Hatfield parliamentary constituency.

What Do Liberal Democrats Believe?

Probably the best and most often quoted explanation of what we believe comes from our constitution:

"The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity"

We want people to be free to be who they want to be and to have the life chances to become that person. The only limits to that are that this has to be done without hurting other people and stopping them living the lives they want. Tolerance is a key issue for Liberal Democrats.

Our Local Party

We currently have eight Councillors on Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and three Hertfordshire County Councillors. The Liberal Democrats are the official opposition on Hertfordshire County Council.

As a local party we have an active social program which ranges from regular meet ups in local pubs for "Lib Dem Pint" evenings, to travelling in groups to demonstrations and events and hosting formal dinners with well known Liberal Democrat MPs and Peers.
