Candidate for Brookmans Park and Little Heath
I grew up in Liverpool during the 1970s and 80s, and then Cambridge during the 1990s, which gave me two very different perspectives on our society and politics. My family has always believed in the liberal values of tolerance, freedom and the rights of the individual, so joining the Liberal Democrats in 2016 came naturally to me. I am currently the Treasurer of Welwyn Hatfield Lib Dems.
After studying European Law at Durham University and the University of Leuven, Belgium, I joined a City law firm and qualified as a solicitor in 2004. I worked in legal practice for a decade, gaining valuable experience in negotiation and project management, among other skills. I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to live and work in France, Belgium and Sweden as well as the UK.
In 2013, I helped to found a charity promoting human rights in childbirth, and sat on the board of trustees for over two years. I volunteered with another maternity charity, and trained as a breastfeeding peer supporter in order to support women with birth and infant feeding, whatever their choices may be.
I have lived in Brookmans Park since 2014, with my partner and our two sons. We spend a lot of time enjoying all that our local area has to offer, and know how fortunate we are to live somewhere with many amenities here or close at hand.
If you elect me as your councillor I will pay close attention to problems such as potholes, parking, bin collections and fly-tipping. I will campaign for you on issues such as the new Local Plan and our rail service. I also look forward to continuing to work with our successful Liberal Democrat councillors across Welwyn Hatfield and the rest of Hertfordshire to find practical cost-effective solutions to the problems that affect local residents. Above all I want to listen to your concerns, and do my utmost to make sure they are met in a way which preserves the benefits of our local area for all who live here.
