Candidate for Hatfield South West
Simon Archer recently retired after 43 years in the bus industry serving Hatfield residents with London Country and Arriva buses. He lives with his wife Sheila in Travellers Lane, having moved to Hatfield in 1978, and is passionate about environmental issues.
As Chairman of Hatfield Against Incineration he helped lead the successful campaign against the proposal by Herts County Council and Veolia to build a massive Incinerator on the New Barnfield site between South Hatfield and Welham Green. Simon's current concern for the environment is demonstrated by his participation in the Cleaner Hatfield Action Campaigns, and can be seen on most days litter picking in the Woods Avenue and Travellers Lane areas. He also regularly reports cases of fly-tipping to the Council.
Simon's other main concerns are highways issues, with his top four being:
- Unlit bollards
- Cycling on pavements
- Uneven footpaths with puddles and tree-root intrusion
As active members of St John's church at the Hilltop, Simon and Sheila are heavily involved with the St John's Youth and Community Centre. Simon is keeping a close watch on the proposed redevelopment of the High View Shopping Precinct, and is concerned that the vital Hilltop shopping facilities are not lost when building work starts.
